There is something wonderfully theatrical about this handsome pair of mid-century crystal decanters. The moment I saw them, I thought the moment when the bourbon is poured during a classic movie or a Poirot murder mystery...just before someone announces that something extraordinarily curious or sinister has happened.  

The pair are elegant and remarkably substantial, each weighing approximately 4.3 pounds empty. Tall cut panels rise from an intricate starry pattern near the base, while the large faceted stoppers are eye-catching and jewel-like.

In the light, they are gorgeous. Sunlight or lamplight catches the many facets of the stoppers, sending tiny prisms of color across the glass and into the room. 

Although made during the mid-century period, the design is so classic that these would work just as beautifully with antique or vintage barware in an eclectic interior. They could be used for bourbon, whiskey, Scotch, cognac, brandy, or another favorite spirit.

The original stoppers fit extremely well.

These were made in Portugal by Atlantis and appear to be from the company’s earliest years. The quality of the crystal is exceptionally fine.

Condition

Both decanters and their original stoppers are in excellent vintage condition.

While examining the engraved mark on the underside under magnification, I discovered one extremely tiny flake along an edge of the base. From its appearance, I believe it may have occurred during manufacture rather than through later use. It is very small and was not apparent to me until the glass was being closely examined. This is shown in the detailed photographs.

Otherwise, the crystal is exceptionally fine, with no fleas, chips, cracks, or damage observed. There are very minor scratches from use. The original faceted stoppers are also in excellent condition, without damage,  and fit securely as designed.
