This refined post-Edwardian ensemble dates to approximately 1918 and represents a moment of elegant confidence.

It is a true two-piece set, consisting of a finely tailored shirtwaist blouse and a matching high-waisted skirt, designed from the outset to be worn together or as separate garments.

The ensemble is constructed entirely of snowy white linen and finished throughout with extensive white-on-white hand embroidery. It remains in remarkable condition and is highly wearable by modern standards, a combination that is increasingly difficult to find in garments of this period.

The blouse is cut with a high, close neckline and long sleeves finished with embroidered cuffs. Vertical pintucks run down the front, creating a crisp architectural line that echoes sleek contemporary tailoring while remaining unmistakably from its time.

Original diamond-shaped mother-of-pearl buttons are bold and sculptural and fasten the front. All are present and intact. The back of the shirtwaist is softly gathered at the waist, allowing ease of movement while preserving a controlled silhouette.

The skirt is equally accomplished. Pintucked detailing appears again at the front, visually linking the two pieces, while a discreetly inset gored panel at the back provides graceful movement when walking. From the front, the line is slim and refined. From behind, the skirt opens gently into a subtle flare, a hallmark of well-cut garments from the late 1910s.

The embroidery is extensive and entirely hand worked, executed with thousands upon thousands of small, precise stitches.

The embroidery appears across the full front panel of the skirt, along both shoulder seams and cuffs of the blouse, and most impressively, across the entire back of the shirtwaist.

This level of embellishment required weeks of skilled labor and elevates the ensemble from fine clothing into the realm of textile art.

Equally important is the integrity of the construction. Original period fastenings, including snaps and hook-and-eye closures, remain in place. The linen is strong and supple, with no damage.

The ensemble has been professionally cleaned by a textile conservator using non-invasive, museum-approved methods and is ready for wear or display.

This is a rare example of a post-Edwardian ensemble that combines beauty, durability, and versatility. The blouse pairs effortlessly with modern skirts or trousers, while the skirt can be worn with other antique or contemporary tops. Together, they offer a complete and elegant expression of fashion at the threshold of the 1920s.
