Elegant Hand-Embroidered Linen Shirtwaist & Matching Skirt Ensemble
Circa 1918...may be beautifully worn as separates...FREE SHIPPING

Dating to about 1918, this exquisite two-piece ensemble captures the sublime elegance of the years immediately following the Edwardian era. Designed as a matching set, the two pieces include a beautifully tailored blouse and coordinating high-waisted skirt.

Absolutely strong enough for wear, both pieces are equally lovely when worn together or separately.

Fashioned entirely of snowy white linen, the ensemble is richly embellished with extensive hand-embroidered white-on-white hand raised embroidery executed with thousands of tiny stitches.

Vertical pintucks, original diamond-shaped mother-of-pearl buttons, and crisp tailoring create a sophisticated silhouette that feels remarkably modern.

The blouse features a high neckline, three-quarter length sleeves with embroidered cuffs. The matching skirt echoes the pintucked detailing and is cut with a discreet gored panel creating graceful movement while preserving the slim, feminine lines.

Original period fastenings, including snaps and hook-and-eye closures, remain intact throughout. The linen is strong, supple, and exceptionally well preserved. The ensemble has been professionally cleaned by a textile conservator using museum-approved, non-invasive methods and is ready for careful wear or display.

One of the great strengths of this ensemble is its versatility. The embroidered shirtwaist pairs beautifully with modern skirts, tailored trousers, or even jeans, while the matching skirt works equally well with antique or contemporary blouses. Worn together, they recreate the classic silhouette of the late 1910s. Worn separately, they become timeless wardrobe pieces that bridge more than a century of fashion history.

Matching ensembles of this quality are increasingly difficult to find, particularly in such beautifully preserved condition.  It is exceptional!
